This is an independent short film I shot for then first-time director Kate Duhamel. We shot this on 35mm film, on location in Sturgis, South Dakota during the infamous Harley Motorcycle Rally. We shot the exterior intro and location cutaways is Sturgis. All the dialogue scenes were filmed in downtown Martinez, CA including the scene of two bikers and the store exterior shots.
I was Director of Photographer on this project. I was attracted to this project by the script Kate had written, and the quirky story with a bit of a twist ending! I’m quite proud of the final film, especially how well the exterior dialogue scene matches to the location.
When shot this back in the late 1990’s, High Definition video technology was cutting edge, and only available at the production studio level. This video transfer is, sadly, poor compared to the original film print. At the time of the transfer the best resolution I could afford to transfer was 720×480 Standard Definition. Maybe someday we can get a new film to digital video master made….
