Content Director is the part of the IX5000 control UI that allows users the ability share , move, and duplicate multiple data sources while in a local meeting or a video call. This functionality is a subset of the overall call control application, but also is accessible outside of a call.
One of the challenges of this application was that local shared sources (such as a laptop connected via a cable) behaved differently than remotely shared sources (such as another endpoint sharing their presentation). This behavior was determined by the call control infrastructure, which made for a challenge in creating consistent user control.
The UI controls are divided into two areas: the visual representation of the endpoint screens on the Touch10 control device, and the Share Tray which contains all the available sources a user can share, including any additional in-room camera sources and connected devices.
I explored a variety of Share Tray designs over the course of this project. Ultimately the final design had to conform to the family of TelePresence products, even though these other products had lesser feature sets than the capabilities of the IX5000.
In addition to creating the design, I built high-fidelity Axure and Keynote prototypes so we could user test interactions and behaviors of the share tray, and observe how users discovered the ability to manipulate video sources on the system’s screens.
